The Salty Dog Saloon
200 West Main StreetSteele City, NE  68440

Margo acquired the saloon from Big Bob and Little Nellie (uncle and auntie)  in October 1985.  At that time it was only a beer bar.  Since that time, liquor  arrived in 1987 in the back of a '76 Lincoln Continental with lots of hoopla!  With a little help from friends and family many, new improvements were made  including a new roof to replace the one that was missing.  Two jukeboxes were in  full swing with a wide variety of classic tunes.  More improvements, a new CD  player and big screen TV and a beer garden to boot!  With time, the Mexican food became world famous (it's a small world).  We  don't claim to be a 5-star restaurant and neither do our prices, but the food,  I'm sure, can compete!  The hungriest of the litter is always satisfied.

The Salty Dog Saloon has always been a gathering place for flamboyant,  colorful and crazy characters.  We sometimes get a few hound dogs who enjoy  howling at the moon, please feel free to join in!  The 3rd weekends of February the Salty Dog celebrates Mardi Gras complete  with costumes and beads (we all know what the beads are for don't we).

On the 1st Saturday of June the Ride-In Bike Show comes to town.  Yes I said  Bike Show.  Harley and Imports alike are always welcome.  Live music, and other  entertainment, vendors and tattooist through the day with camping available.   It's like Sturgis in a small way.

On the 3rd Sunday of September or 3rd weekend, (which ever the Historical  Society decides) the population of Steele City explodes from 101 to over 7,000  with the arrival of the Annual Flea Market.  This is a huge event (I said HUGE)  that includes historical tours, handcrafts, old farm equipment demos, food and  lots to drink.

The Salty Dog was sold in November 1999.  After 1 year and 335 days  of(so-called) vacation, Margo has returned to the Salty Dog to please and harass  the customers again.
